SASSA has announced that social grant payments for September 2025 are due to be paid starting from 2 September. More than 19 million South Africans are receiving this payment, their means to provide basic needs such as food, medicine, and education. Below are the dates for the respective monthly payments and the amount per month, along with withdrawal tips for convenience.
Period of Payment for September 2025
The South African Social Security Agency will stagger the payments to avoid large crowd gatherings at ATMs and pay-point. The following days are set aside for payment in September 2025:
- Giving of Older Persons Grants (War Veterans Inclusive): Tuesday, 02 September 2025.
- Giving of Disability Grants (Grant-in-Aid Inclusive): Wednesday, 03 September 2025.
- Child Grants, which are Child Support, Foster, Child Care Dependency: Thursday, 04 September 2025.
- SRD Grant: Between 24 and 30 September 2025 (depends on the beneficiary).Payments are mostly made into banks or withdrawals from SASSA gold cards until it is fully paid into the beneficiary’s account. While a slight delay is expected for the SRD payment, a beneficiary can check online for confirmation of the particular date.
Grant Amounts for September 2025
Grant amounts are adjusted twice a year by SASSA, and the values have been in effect since April 2025, while those for the month of September are as follows:
- Old-Age Pension: R2,310 (60–74); R2,330 (75+)
- War Veteran’s Grant: R2,330
- Disability Grant: R2,310
- Child Support Grant: R560 for each child
- Foster Child Grant: R1,180 for each child
- Care Dependency Grant: R2,310 for each child
- Grant-in-Aid: R560 (alongside another grant)
- SRD Grant: R370
This amount, just like August, tries to assist the beneficiary in a country whose poverty level is at 55.5% and unemployment is rising at 32.9% rate.
General overview
Grants’ eligibility requirements are generally laid down and made available in the applicable statutes relating to the grant, but the considerations are still essentially as follows:
- Seasoned People/World War II Veterans: Must be 60 or over, able to respire the income of South African Citizen/Permanent Residence, not exceeding R86,280 (single) and R172,560 (married).
- Disability: Any applicant between 18 and 59 years medically unable to do any work; income limitations same as for Older Persons.
- Children’s Grants: The foster caregiver must satisfy the prescribed income limit (about R60,000 p.a. for a CSG), or have a court order stating such (in the case of Foster Child).
- SRD: 18-59, unemployed, earns below R624 per month, and not receiving any other grant.
SASSA conducts checks with Home Affairs and will also conduct bank enquiries to confirm compliance.
Smooth Payment Tips
Check the following to avoid delays:
- Banking Details: Make sure the bank account or Sassa gold card details are updated on the SASSA e-Services portal (srd.sassa.gov.za), so that no problems are encountered during payments.
- Status: Check for the status of payments through the SRD portal, SMS at 32555, or WhatsApp at 082 046 8553, especially SRD payments.
- Prime Time to Withdraw: It would be wise to avoid those very long queues at the ATM to withdraw cash-a day or two after crediting of payments at Aka-Shoprite.
- Respond to Reviews: Respond at all times to verifications requested, as in July 2025, approximately 210,000 flagged beneficiaries were suspended due to no response.
Delays and Handling
Payments may be delayed; therefore, check your status or call 0800 60 10 11. The main cause for delays is due to incorrect banking details or puts on verification. An SRD application may be appealed within 90 days from srd.dsd.gov.za after rejection.
