SASSA Grant Review South Africa: The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has given notice that reviews are due to commence on September 10, 2025. Users should be mindful and submit all the required paperwork in a timely manner to avoid any hindrance or suspension in their payments.
The Purpose Of Conducting Grant Reviews
As has been the practice, SASSA will conduct grant reviews during a particular period to ensure that there are no ineligible beneficiaries who enjoy financial support. This kind of review also serves to verify changes in the social and financial status of the beneficiaries.
In September 2025, attention will be given to the following grant categories:
- Older Persons Grant (Pension).
- Disability Grant.
- Child Support Grant.
- Foster Child and Care Dependency Grants.
What Beneficiaries Must Do
Grant recipients must submit updated documents to include the following:
- A new pay slip or an unemployment certificate.
- New medical certificates (if they are disability grant holders).
- Proof of attendance or enrolment for child grants.
- An ID or birth certificate for identification purposes.
The documents must be submitted either in a SASSA office or through the online portal, where available.
SASSA warned that failure to submit the documents on time can delay payments or cause a temporary suspension of the grant.

The following are practices that SASSA has advised to follow in order to ease the submission process:
- Look at your SMS messages : you will receive reminders from SASSA telling you which documents you need.
- Gather your documents early : don’t procrastinate.
- Go to the SASSA offices early : this helps you avoid long queues.
- Keep copies : always keep a record of the documents you send.
Beneficiaries Urged To Act Quickly
Starting 10 September 2025, all beneficiaries are expected to undergo a review session. SASSA has committed that the grants will remain uninterrupted for those who comply with the terms and conditions. Grants for non-compliant beneficiaries can be delayed further or discontinued.
A SASSA spokesperson said: “The primary goal of the review process is not to reduce the number of beneficiaries but to ensure grants get to the right individuals. We want to remind all beneficiaries to take the necessary actions as soon as possible to prevent additional inconveniences.”
