SASSA Grant Boost 2025 : Beneficiaries of the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) social grants will now have something to focus on this month regarding the new grant figures for September 2025, issued this month. The amendment should reduce the effects of the increase in the cost of food, transport, and other daily living expenses faced by South Africans.
Which SASSA Grants Are Increasing?
Beginning in September, the following SASSA grants will be increased:
- Old Age Pension Grant: Increased to R2,315 for those over 60 and slightly higher for those aged 75 and over.
- Disability Grant: Now R2,315, purportedly offering additional support to beneficiaries with chronic illnesses.
- Child Support Grant: Revised upwards to R560 per child, easing parents’ burden of school and household expenses.
- Foster Child Grant: Increased to R1,250 per child, which is crucial for foster families.
These increases illustrate the government’s commitment to expanding the social safety net, so no vulnerable South African is excluded.
Why The Increase Now?
By 2025, a family’s cost of living became the most prominent issue for families due to the continual increase in the prices of food, electricity, and transport. The increase in grants, as proposed by the government of September 2025, is an effort to mitigate the financial strain experienced by many families.
These changes are explained by the officials to not be made as and when required. They are made to consider the inflation adjustments and the social protection measures that are to be implemented to offer greater protection to the more challenging social protection economies.
When Will Beneficiaries Receive Their Payments?
The Social Assistance and Security Agency has confirmed that the payment timetable for September of the year 2025 will not be revised. Beneficiaries are expected to get their revised payments in accordance with their grant varieties as follows:
- For Older Persons Grant : starting 3 September 2025.
- For Disability Grant : starting 4 September 2025.
- For Child Support and all other grants: starting 5 September 2025.
Disbursements will be conducted through bank accounts, Postbank, and accredited retail partners. Beneficiaries are encouraged to withdraw funds on scheduled dates to minimize congestion at withdrawal points.
What Beneficiaries Should Do
SASSA has reminded all recipients to check if their information is current. Out-of-date or incorrect banking details, Older SASSA cards, expired biometric details, might cause a delay in payments and in the increased amounts.
