SASSA Grant Increase 2025 : South Africans during government social assistance hours can now breathe a sigh of relief as the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has, on an official note, begun raising grants starting September 2025. This adjustment is part of the continuous measures aimed to assist vulnerable citizens so they may face the rising cost of living.
What Beneficiaries Can Expect
Increases in grants are set to be made to the following categories:
- Old Age Pension – Beneficiaries aged 60 to 74 years will now be receiving R2,315, whereas the beneficiaries above 75 years will receive slightly more.
- Child Support Grant – R560 increased, with millions of caregivers supported.
- Foster Child Grant – Grant beneficiaries will now be compensated by R1,250.
- Disability Grant – To now match the old-age pension, which equally supports those unable to work.
The increases are small but quite meaningful, thereby giving money into the hands of those who need it the most.
Why The Increase?
Due to inflation in food, transport, and electricity costs, many families have struggled to stretch their monthly revenues. With this increase in SASSA grants in September 2025, the government seeks to enable beneficiaries to cope better with basic needs.
A spokesperson for SASSA noted that these adjustments are part of a phase system to adjust social grants according to economic pressures while aiming to protect South Africa’s most vulnerable populations.
SASSA Payment Dates For September 2025
The revised SASSA payment calendar remains as follows:
- Older Persons Grants : From 2 September 2025.
- Disability Grants : From 3 September 2025.
- Children Grants : From 4 September 2025.
Payments will however still be made via bank deposits into beneficiary bank accounts, on SASSA gold cards, as well as at selected retailers and pay points.
How To Check Your Updated Payment
Once SASSA updates the grant amount into their system, beneficiaries can confirm this by using the official SASSA website, the Moya App, or by dialing the USSD *134*7737# on their cell phones. Being informed keeps one out of the way of misinforming others and the unnecessary queues at the payment centers.
