SASSA Grants September 2025 – R2,315, R560 And R1,250 Beneficiaries Must Verify Biometrics

SASSA Biometric Verification 2025 :Clients of South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) are advised to take note of updates concerning payments scheduled for September 2025. Both the R2,315 Disability Grant and the R560 Child Support Grant along with the R1,250 Foster Child Grant will be issued only after biometric verification is performed on each payment.

What Is Biometric Verification?

Introducing biometric verification is one of the steps SASSA is taking to improve security and minimise fraudulent grant claims. In the last few months, instances of identity misuse and duplicate applications have been witnessed, causing unnecessary delays in payments. Such instances can be put to rest with biometric verification, which includes fingerprints and facial recognition checks to confirm rightful beneficiaries.

Although the decision is good news from the fraudulent claims perspective, there is a risk of longer lines and minor delays for grant holders, especially those needing updates to their information.

Who Is Affected?

The following grants will require biometric verification for September 2025:

  • Disability Grant: R2,315
  • Child Support Grant: R560
  • Foster Child Grant: R1,250

Other grants such as the Old Age Pension and the SRD R370 grants will not be affected by the new biometric verification requirement for the time being.

How To Complete Biometric Verification

As Per SASSA’s Guidance

  • Go to the closest SASSA office or payment point that has biometric facilities.
  • Bring your South African ID and proof of address.
  • Carry out the requisite fingerprint and facial scan.
  • Provide your mobile contact for updates and SMS notifications on payments.

Biometric verification is mandatory. Failure to comply may result in a delay or suspension of all payments, starting with the September payments, until such verification is completed.

Payment Dates Unchanged

Though there are new biometric requirements, the payment schedule for September 2025 has not changed. Funds will continue to be disbursed to beneficiaries on the appropriate date for their grants. SASSA has clarified that only beneficiaries with incomplete biometric verification will have their funds frozen.

Guidance For Beneficiaries

If you receive any of the grants mentioned above, you should verify your status at the earliest. Unless they receive further instructions, beneficiaries who completed biometric checks in the earlier months will not be required to undergo the checks again.

In the long run, this new initiative is positive. While it may cause some inconvenience initially, it is a boon for the millions of vulnerable South Africans who rely on the grants because it will help defend the grants’ integrity.
