SASSA Double Grant September 2025 : SASSA’s Social Relief package for COVID-19 beneficiaries has made south Africans increasingly reliant on grant payments. Struggling individuals rely on the SASSA grant to purchase essentials like food, electricity, and transport. Beneficiaries who have missed payments are now set to receive their arrears in September, along with their regular payments.
Verified Grantees May Receive Double Payments
When a beneficiary’s grant is delayed, either because of verification issues, changes to their bank account, or system errors, then that grant, along with the current one, is processed. This is common with grants from the South African Social Security Agency. This approach makes certain that no grantee is left behind and that those that depend on grants to purchase essential commodities like food, and pay for electricity and transport are not short changed.
Grants Eligible For Double Payments
Not every recipient will receive the double payment in September 2025. The double payment will apply primarily to those receiving any one of the following grants, whose payments were previously delayed:
- Older Persons Grant
- Disability Grant
- Child Support Grant
- Foster Care Grant
- Care Dependency Grant
- Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant
If your payments were on schedule during the previous months, you will not be eligible for extra funds. Only those transactions that were missed or delayed will be eligible for catch-up.
How To Check Payment Eligibility
It’s in the best interest of all recipients to verify their payment status on the official SASSA website or to check notification messages from their banks. If there’s any doubt about missing payments or delayed grants, a visit to the nearest SASSA office will also help. To clear any misconceptions, keep in mind: double payment is not a bonus increase, it’s an overdue amount being cleared in addition to the regular monthly grant.

You do not have to fret about withdrawing your money immediately, as the funds will stay in your account until you cash them out. To minimise congestion at withdrawal points, beneficiaries are advised to make use of ATMs and shops.
